Ed Krische will leave the morning of Friday, July 2nd and travel I-80 east through Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Iowa. Ed plans to be in Des Moines on Monday 7/5 at 6:30am. From there, he will run I-80 to Davenport, then I-74 from Davenport, IA to Indianapolis, IN. From Indy, Ed may make a loop through Ohio before heading to Louisville for the Summer Type Conference depending on need. He will be leaving Louisville on Thursday afternoon 7/8. Ed is charging $450 for sows, $400 for gilts, and $400 for the young boars. She will be doing a follow-up ultrasound on sale day and we will update the sale site with any new facts from her visit. All females that sell “open” are guaranteed to breed. Ottenwalter Show Pigs views the total purchase price of a bred female as 60% attributed to sow value and 40% to the litter value. We STRONGLY URGE our customers to follow these guidelines: Administer estrumate 1cc IN THE NECK or lutalyse 2cc IN THE NECK the day before their listed due date to induce farrowing on their due date. All due dates listed are based upon 114 days following their first service. Put your gilt/sow in the farrowing crate 3-4 days before her due date and have a heat lamp or mat turned on on both sides of the crate starting three days before their due date. Feed Trans Rite Sow Ultra daily for three days prior to her due date. Have oxytocin on hand to use if needed during farrowing and only use after having checked that the birth canal is clear. Also have a bottle of lube available and we HIGHLY RECOMMEND having a “Pig & Lamb Puller” on hand which can be purchased from Nasco or PBS Animal Health for about $9. Austin told us it is a close pair. He figured Hibachi would take the trip better and didn’t want to show mates. To be honest, I’m not sure which one would have been more popular or done better in the show because this pair is special. Mother of this boar was Reserve Duroc Gilt at the 2019 IN State Fair and goes back to the foundation of Joostberns Duroc program. Really like this pedigree and this boar is going to be one that can cover a very wide variety of females. This guy is the perfect balance of soundness and build from the side it takes to win in the junior gilt ring, yet has the shape, spread, and power it takes to win in the barrow ring. He is one that is real good looking, level from the side, up on pasterns, and comes and goes with squareness.
